A Little Short Story! [Legends Cup prize thingy]

To all of those who don’t know, WE WON AGAINST NACHOS!! 😀 Great job, guys! So, to commemorate the occasion, I’ve decided to write a Short story for you guys. I hope you all enjoy!

Winter’s Love

Mordecool’s PoV (Point of View)

“Thank you everyone for coming to this event today, even though it’s snowing like crazy outside! Welcome to the first training session before the Legends Cup! I’m glad to see everyone here.” Funks, one of the Ice Warriors leaders welcomed us, “Let’s start immediately with the line arrangements.” We were in the capitol of the Ice Warriors’ territory, Sub Zero, in the middle of nowhere for some reason. What were we doing? Training for the upcoming Legends Cup battle against the Doritos. Even though I was a retired troop, I’d decided to lend everyone a hand.

I smiled to Ravenwing, one of my closest friends. Friend. For the past two years, I’ve hated that word. I wanted to be more with that girl. Not that she would ever like me back. She was too skilled, smart, funny and pretty for a guy like me.

My thoughts were suddenly interrupted by Funks, who had thought about how this session would go. “Okay, everyone! Two diagonal lines forming an X, let’s go!” he shouted. I quickly darted into a large space between Kyle and Cece. All of my other fellow Ice Warriors who attended the session swiftly moved into place as well.

Funks, who was watching from the cave, applauded. “Great formation everyone! I have a good feeling about this session.” It was silent for a moment, nothing was heard except for the soft patter of snow falling. The leader finally revealed the first tactic. “Okay everybody, angry faces on three!” He then counted up, and once he reached the number three, everyone put on their war faces, and rapidly threw snowballs at the targets that stood before us. Ravenwing’s throws were so accurate, I wasn’t even paying attention to my own aim, and accidentally hit Albc in the face with a snowball.

“Morde!” Funks called, noticing my accuracy. “It’s nice to see you’re helping out and doing the tactics, but would you please watch where you’re throwing?” he asked after the snowball throwing had died down.

“Sorry..” I mumbled, blushing with embarrassment. Cece giggled quietly to herself, so quiet that I could barely hear her. She knew I’d been looking at Raven.

“That’s completely fine. Just watch what you’re doing next time, we don’t want what happened just then happening in the battle against the Doritos!” I slowly nodded at Funks’ reply, and focused on every tactic and formation change. I even took a few quick glances at Raven to see how she was doing.

HALF AN HOUR LATER…

“Thank you all for coming!” Funks smiled, “I hope you all have a safe ride back on your motorcycles!”

A few warriors began trudging through the thick snow and towards their motorcycles, but it was at that moment that Guido, a good friend of mine, had realized the snow was up to everyone’s knees. “Yeah… I don’t think the safe ride part is going to happen.” he sighed, his eyes focused on the snow. I let out a surprised gasp when I looked in the direction he was looking.

The snow was now about a metre high, and had blocked off the track leading back to the Ice Warriors Centeral Building. “How is this possible?” I asked myself. “Three hours ago the snow was seriously thin… and now we can’t even see the pathway?”

Ravenwing must’ve heard my question, because she sat down next to me and said, “Morde, calm down. It’s just a blizzard, it will be over by tomorrow. After all, we have this cave over here to shelter in.” As soon as she mentioned the cave, everyone rushed into the small area and tried their best to keep warm. Raven gave me a hopeful grin as we followed everyone in. I smiled back. I was tempted to ramble on some more, but I had calmed down thanks to Ravenwing, and I was fine.

However, most of the others seemed panicked. Funks was a little surprised by this, but kept his cool. “Can somebody try calling Tes with their phone or something?” he asked curiously.

A few people shook their heads because their phones were dead, and Ravenpaw said, “There’s no point in trying anyway. There’s no signal. Perhaps, we could practise our skills a little more?”

Funks nodded in reply, and with the help of myself, Ravenwing and a few others, we got the targets into the cave. Everyone was in position, and we were ready to train a bit more.

AN HOUR LATER…

“Okay, great going guys. I’m sure everyone has some food and water on them, so we won’t die of starvation or thirst, and I have sleeping bags. I’ll set everything up, and you all can do something else before we get some sleep.” Funks finished. The session had turned out well, even if the cave was super crowded.

The first thing I did was walk to Ravenwing, who was hanging out with Barry, Ravenclaw, Guido and Ravenpaw. I sat myself down, and we talked for a while. However, the chatting amongst us slowly died down, because Barry and RC eventually began flirting, which turned into making out, and Guido and Ravenpaw were super hungry so they went over to grab something to eat. So, I thought I may as well spend some time with her.

We walked over to the targets together. I quickly grabbed a bow and some arrows and stood back. “Raven, watch this!” I told her. She turned her attention to my shooting, and I shot the target several times, and the arrows formed a small self portrait of Ravenwing on the target. “Do you like it?” I asked. All she did was beam and nod. She was that speechless, shockingly.

The girl opened her mouth to speak, but Funks had thrown us sleeping bags, a sign that we should be getting to sleep. Everyone set up their places, just sleeping in random spots. Some of the couples slept next to each other to keep warm. I set up my sleeping bag next to Ravenwing, so I could keep her warm myself.

Soon enough, everyone was asleep- except for me, that is. I couldn’t stop thinking about Ravenwing. I tossed and turned for a long time, until finally, I changed my position so I was looking at her. To my surprise, she was awake, and her big, emerald green eyes stared right at me. We were both quiet for a moment, before she finally spoke up. “I can’t sleep…” she whispered.

“Me either…” I replied, turning my voice volume down really low. “Want to go outside?” She nodded, and we exited the shelter of the cave. The blizzard outside had stopped, and only a light snow was falling. The wind whistled, just loud enough for nobody to hear us from inside. “We can talk normal now. The wind is so loud, nobody can hear us.” I said..

Ravenwing sat down, and gestured for me to come next to her. I did as she asked. As I sat myself down, my heart began beating faster. “So…what do you want to talk about?” I asked.

The girl shrugged. “I don’t know, really.” she replied. We both laughed to ourselves. It was then silent for a moment, except for the beautiful sounds of wind and snow. As I listened, I felt Ravenwing shiver. I offered her my jacket. “No!” she pushed the jacket away from her, and back to me. “Then you’ll be cold yourself!!”

Shaking my head, I forced the jacket onto her. “I won’t! And after all, I don’t want you to catch a cold.” I smiled.

“Thanks…. You’re my hero.” My cheeks flushed, and I felt them begin to turn red. Luckily, it was too dark outside for her to see. That moment of happiness was ruined a little when I heard Raven say that word. “You know, Morde, I’m glad that I’m your friend. I really am.” That word… friend. I said nothing again as I heaved a sigh of slight sadness. “Something wrong?” she asked.

“No, no. It’s just….never mind.” I knew I was caught red handed with this answer. She was going to find out about my real feelings for her… I just knew it.

“Morde? You know you can tell me anything, right?”

Her dark blonde hair shone in the moonlight as she turned her head to face me. Although it looked beautiful, I attempted to ignore it. I replied, “It’s nothing, Raven, really!”

The girl stood up, looking pretty hurt. “You…trust me…right?” I had a feeling that tears were welling up in her eyes. My only option was to tell her.

“Of course I do! It’s just that…well… I like a girl, but I’m too afraid to tell her..”

Raven’s face brightened immediately. “Really? Who is it?” she gasped in wonder.

“I’m…not telling you.”

“Why not? Is it someone I know?”

“Yup.”

“Morde, just tell me! Please, I won’t say anything, I swear!!”

“No, Raven, I’m not telling!!” After I said that, I could’ve sworn I saw tears in her eyes again, but I’m pretty sure it was just me. She took a slow step back.

“Listen to me, Morde. You are nice, intelligent, funny, friendly, handsome-” Raven abruptly stopped at the word handsome. I could barely see the pink shade that was tinged on her cheeks.

My cheeks were probably bursting with redness right now, too. I grabbed her hand and pulled her down so she was sitting next to me again. I looked into Raven’s sparkling eyes. “Did you just say… I’m handsome?” I managed. All she could do was shake her head, and think of the right words to say. “Listen. You know that girl I like? She is talented at fighting, and is extremely friendly and kind. She has long hair in the beautiful shade of blonde, that is put back into a ponytail often. Also, she has large emerald green eyes and the prettiest face I’d ever seen.”

My heart was now racing as I said those words. Something seemed to pull me closer to her, and she did the same. Our lips touched, and I kissed her. I KISSED her. When we moved back, we both had the largest grins on our faces. “Will you be my girlfriend?” I asked.

“I would love to.” she answered, smiling. She pulled me into another kiss, and suddenly my hatred for that word friend disappeared. It seemed that I didn’t care about a thing in the world anymore. It didn’t matter that I was cold, or that we were stranded in the middle of Sub Zero.

All that mattered was that there were two of us.
