Well, enjoy this long-awaited part of Survivor!~ (P.S. I guess you could say this is my 7th anniversary present for all of IW. XD)

Chapter 7: Goodbye, my Friend

I slowly dragged myself into camp, with Abby following closely behind me. Purple was still laying in the hammock that the tree fort had to offer, but she was now awake. Guido and RC were sitting below her, still talking about the Oreagre. Another chill of scaredness ran down my spine as they mentioned it one last time before looking back up at us. Guido grinned, but a large frown remained on RC’s face. She stormed up to me. “Hey, may I talk to you for a minute?” she asked, her teeth gritted so her words sounded like one big growl.

“Uh…sure.” I hesitated for a moment, wondering why she seemed so aggrivated. “Is it something we could talk about here, or should we go somewhere else?” The girl angrily pointed to the exit of camp. Then, she stomped out, just like she had before. I gave a quick shrug to the others in unknowing, and walked off with her. I turned back to have one last look at Guido and Abby, and they seemed a bit nervous about her mood as well.

We were soon in the middle of the forest. “So…” I started, sitting on a log, “What did you want to talk about? Friendships, relationships, all of that?” She then gave me a sudden slap across the face. I gave a small whimper of pain and looked back at her as the pain started to ebb away from my cheek. “What the HELL what that for?!” I scolded her.

RC’s face seemed like a beetroot, a reddish purple color. She seemed very angered by something, but I couldn’t make out what it was. “Well…” Her face softened. “I…” Before she could say anything else, her eyes widened, and she clasped her hands around her mouth. “RAVEN! BEHIND YOU!!”

I turned around and looked up, into the clouds. Standing above me, was a monster. It was the same type of monster that had given us the tree fort and the campsite. The Oreagre must’ve ran into us during its travels. “RUN!!” I screeched. We clambered up a medium-sized tree, and jumped quickly into the branches of the different trees surrounding us. The Oreagre growled deeply, and clanked its teeth. It had a taste for blood right now, that was for sure. Finally, we were stopped at a dead end. A cliff. The large beast was lumbering towards us, knocking down trees and bushes. There was only one thing to do.

“JUMP!!” I screeched. We fell down the cliff, down and down, until I felt something wet engulf me.

SPLASH!!

My mind felt extremely disoriented as I felt my body touch the ice cold water. Which way is up? I thought as I saw a small amount of light above me and the murky water. I swam towards it, breathing heavily as I surfaced the lake. Immediately, I pulled myself out, and laid myself in the sun to start drying out. When I looked over beside me to see if RC was okay, I screamed with despair. She hadn’t survived the fall.

“Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap, oh crap…” As I muttered the same words over and over again, I climbed my way back up to the cliff top, and darted away from it, stopping at a large bush. “What have I done…?” I cried forlornly. Every nerve in my body seemed covered in grief and guilt, while my face was covered in thorns and scratches, as this bush was a rose bush.

A few minutes later, I heard someone calling.

“Hello, anybody here?”

That was Abby’s voice. They had come to find me. Suddenly, I heard the gasp of Guido one or two metres away from me. “Raven!!” he said, shocked. “What are you doing here, and why are you wet?”

After about a minute of silence, I finally had the small amount of energy and courage to respond. “I…killed her…”

Guido’s hand was softly felt on my shoulder. “Killed who? Abby, come here!” Abby’s footsteps came towards my trembling body. She sat next to him, and they conferred with each other for a moment. “Just tell us what happened.” Guido said with comfort. I could just imagine the shocked, nervous or scared looks on their faces.

“I didn’t mean to, but I just got so…scared…”

“Raven, what are you talking about?”

“The cliff…”

Someone slowly walked away from me. I assumed it was Guido, because his voice was now a little bit farther away. “Abby, look…this cliff.” I looked up to see them briefly look at the bottom in surprise. I felt tears coming to my eyes, so I pushed my head back into the protection of the rose bush. The two of them came back towards me. “Raven, we know you didnt’ mean to. You aren’t that type of person…”

“But she’s dead, and it’s all my fault…”

Abby stepped into the conversation. “It wasn’t your fault, it was an accident! I mean, now there’s four of us!” she urged happily. I sighed and got my head out of the bush, and looked up at them, smiling thankfully. The past was in the past now, there was nothing I could do.

“Well, what are we going to do about the body?” I asked, curiously. Just then, I remembered. He’s going to give it to “him”… isn’t he?

It turned out I had been right. “The Oreagre…” Guido murmured. Abby gave him a look of confusion. I immediately knew she hadn’t heard anything about the Oreagre and what it had said. It wanted a sacrifice of one of us in return for the tree fort, and lots of food. “Look, its a long story, and I’ll tell you guys when we get back to camp.”

We soon made it back. “Guido, are you crazy? What’s this Oreagre thing?” Abby asked as soon as we all sat down.

Guido shook his head. “No, I’m not, I swear. You see, you know that Oreagre you were so scared of? And the fact that he gave us all of this stuff that he gave us?” Abby nodded slowly, listening with content. “Well, he said we could keep it if we sacrificed one of us. So, Raven, your little mistake…might just save us!” he grinned.

I glanced over to look at Abby. Instead of a look of pleasure on her face, she looked angry, and could’ve sworn she was beginning to turn red. She stepped towards Guido, and began yelling at him. “And WHY are you just telling us this now?! Don’t you think we would’ve wanted to know this earlier?!”

Guido’s eyes widened, like he didn’t know what to say. “W-well…it’s over now. Don’t worry about it!” he said quickly.

“WHAT IF RAVEN NEVER DID HER LITTLE MISHAP? WHO WOULD YOU HAVE KILLED?!?!”

“I…wasn’t sure yet. So, just forgive me, be calm..” As he tried to put Abby in a good mood, I slowly stepped back, beginning to repel myself from the argument. “Well…who’s going to go down into that…abyss to get the body?”

“I think we should volunteer YOU since YOU were going to kill one of us off!”

Not wanting to get mixed up between the two arguing friends, I rushed away from the campsite, and climbed up a massive nearby tree. I sat on a sturdy branch that was high up and watched as the sun began to set. Everything seemed much more calm and quiet here, the way I liked it. The colors of the sky were beautiful, with mixes of hot pink, bright orange, a tinge of blue…

The next thing I knew, I heard a loud scream, and light footsteps pelting the ground. I looked down, and saw someone running. The figure then stopped at the sound of me climbing down the tree, and looked up. “RAVEN! HELP!!”

Sliding down the trunk of the branch, I smiled. “Purple! It’s so good to see you!!”

A timid look remained on her face. She was as pale as a ghost, and was shuddering uncontrollably. “Yeah, you too!” she anxiously replied. “But…I was just wandering around in the woods, and I saw this giant monster chasing me, and really quickly, too!!” He’s back…. I realized, We have to tell the others!

“You go back to camp and tell the others, I’m going to go and reason with him.” I requested.

“You’d do that…for us?”

“Yes…” Purple sprang on top of me, beaming with happiness. She then ran off in the direction of the campsite. Everything seemed like a blur as I wandered through the woods, farther away from my friends with each step. An ear-bursting ROAR!! echoed through the forest. “H-hello…? Um…Oreagre?” I stammered. “Look…we aren’t looking for any trouble…we have your sacrifice!” I then felt a jolt of pain slither up my leg as I tripped over. Groaning, I jumped to my feet and looked around. There was a small black tape recording in front of me. Another message? I assumed. However, it turned out I was wrong. I pressed the ‘View recording’ button on the device.

ROAR!! the recording growled. Immediately after that, it said, “END OF RECORDING.”

“So…maybe there isn’t a monster…” I muttered, going back to the others to show them. “Guys! Guys!!” I called.

“Where’s the monster…thing? Did you kill it?” Abby asked.

“No, but I found this instead.” I pressed the button on the recording yet again, and I heard the sound for the third time.

“It’s the noise that the Oreagre would make…” Guido butted in. “I think someone is playing games with us on this island. Don’t you think that it’s weird how certain things happen on this island that aren’t really…normal?”

“Like the berries.” Purple added as everybody nodded. “Remember that recording at the start of our time here? Like, it said we were being watched or something…” She took the recording that we had started with out of her pocket. It was now all wet and dirty, so she must’ve found it, wherever we’d hid it.

Finally it all seemed to click together. “This is a game…” I agreed solemnly, “But who would crash a plane with passengers in it on an island, just to watch them die?” A tear of nervousness rolled down my cheek.

Guido gave me a quick kiss to try to make me feel better, and sighed. “I don’t know…I just don’t know.”
